Q: Are graduate positions permanent or for a fixed term?
A: All graduate roles are permanent, full-time positions.

Q: Are rotations offered as part of a graduate position?
A: Due to the complex nature of our business and the specific training required to upskill our graduates, we do not offer interdivision rotations for graduates. Some divisions, however, offer rotations within their division; for example, Asset Management.

Q:Can I apply for a position if I live outside Australia?
A: You can, but you should only apply if you have the appropriate citizenship or a permanent residency visa that allows you to work in Australia.

Q: Do you do host interns over winter?
A: Our intern program is geared towards the Australian academic calendar, with the longer break during Australian summer. However, occasionally we select exceptional Australian citizens (or permanent residents) who are studying in the northern hemisphere academic program. To accommodate their study program we host them during the Australian winter.

Q: Do you perform formal aptitude or psychometric testing as part of your selection process?
A: We occasionally perform aptitude or psychometric testing; however, this is not a typical step in our selection process. We believe the best way to form a well-rounded view of your suitability for our team is to introduce you to as many people as possible. During our interview process you may meet more people than you would during other firms’ selection processes. This also allows you to form a more reliable view of our ability to meet your personal and career goals.

Q: Do you recruit postgraduate students?
A: Although students in advanced degrees (for example, a Masters) may apply, both the graduate and intern positions are aimed at undergraduate level. However, we welcome applications from students who are studying a finance-related postgraduate course, if their studies at undergraduate level were unrelated to finance. For example, we would encourage an application from a student who has an engineering degree, but is now studying a Masters in applied finance. Goldman Sachs, who have offices in many locations offshore, have an outstanding Associate or Advanced Degree program. Please see their website for more information: www.gs.com.

Q: How does the interview process work?
A: In most instances, the interview process for graduates consists of two rounds. Where possible, first-round interviews will be held on campus in Victoria and New South Wales. Second round interviews will be held in Goldman Sachs' Melbourne and Sydney offices. The interview process for summer interns will be held in Goldman Sachs' Melbourne and Sydney offices, and will also consist of two rounds, if possible.

Q: How long are the summer internships?
A: A summer intern program is generally between 10 and 12 weeks in length, from December until February. We will confirm the exact dates closer to the offer stage. The variance in length accommodates the differing length of university academic programs, and allows you time to rest and reflect between the end of your studies and the beginning of the internship.

Q: How many positions can I apply for?
A: You can apply for a maximum of one graduate position or one intern position. Due to the fact that each position is aimed at different years, you will only qualify for one or the other.

Q: I'd like to take a year off after I finish studying. Can I still apply?
A: We will consider graduate applications from candidates who have a maximum of one year of post-graduation work experience, travel or other activities that have helped to broaden their skills or perspectives.

Q: I'm concerned that my course is not focused on finance.
A: Diversity is our strength. We recruit from all academic backgrounds. Many of our people have traditional banking or business qualifications, but some of our most successful team members have degrees in law, science, engineering, information systems and humanities.

Q: I'm under pressure with an 'exploding offer' from another company. What should I do?
A: If you receive an exploding offer or acceptance deadline, and you are waiting to hear from us, please call and let us know. We will do everything we can to accommodate you so you can make an informed decision.

Q: I'm worried about my academic results. How important are they?
A: At Goldman Sachs your academic record, while important, is not as critical as your intellect, creativity and enthusiasm.

Q:What if I am interested in an international role within the Goldman Sachs group?
A: Applications submitted to Goldman Sachs can only be considered by Goldman Sachs in Australia. If you are interested in working with Goldman Sachs Asia, or further afield, please visit www.gs.com.

Q: What training will be provided?
A: Upon commencement, all graduates receive intensive orientation and training and, depending on the division they are allocated to, some graduates may have the opportunity to attend Goldman Sachs Global Analyst training offshore. Our summer interns receive comprehensive firm-wide and technical training upon commencement, which includes meetings with each of our divisions.

Q: When do applications open and close?
A: Read about our key dates.

Q: When will I receive a response from you?
A: Within seven days of submitting your application, we will send you an email confirming our receipt of your application. We will contact applicants whose applications we would like to explore further within two weeks of the relevant closing date. If you are unsuccessful, we will contact you via email as soon as possible.

Q: Where are positions located?
A: Graduate and summer intern positions are based in Sydney and Melbourne only.

Q: Who will interview me?
A: Graduates: Professionals from the Goldman Sachs team will conduct first-round interviews; they will be interested in your general suitability for, and interest in working at, Goldman Sachs and may represent different areas of the firm. Second-round interviews will be held in our Melbourne and Sydney offices. At a series of meetings you will have the opportunity to meet professionals from the division for which you have been shortlisted.
Summer interns: Your interviews will be conducted by professionals who are actively recruiting for their division of the firm.
